The overall objective of this webinar is to provide oral health care educators with theoretical and practical applications for integrating biomedical content through reflective practices. Theoretical concepts, such as those from John Dewey’s philosophy of experiential learning and David Kolb’s Cycle of Experiential Learning, will be considered, laying the foundation for reflection as a crucial step in knowledge development. The webinar will frame the use of reflection through the lens of biomedical science as a practical way to assist students, moving beyond rote memorization to applied, integrated thinking. Beyond theory, strategies for integrating biomedical content into reflective activities will be considered for a variety of educational settings: traditional lectures, labs, problem-based learning, team-based learning and case-based learning. The webinar will conclude with an analysis of perceived barriers and solutions to barriers in the use of effective reflection.
This webinar is presented by the ADEA Section on Integrated Clinical and Biomedical Applied Sciences (ICABS). Learn more about joining this Section, as well as ADEA's other Sections and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) online.
