This webinar will introduce the audience to the infection control principles and best practices pertaining to sterilization and disinfection of patient care items, in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. These are the principles that a dentist is responsible for in their practice. The webinar will also provide the audience with resources available—most at no charge—to enhance the curriculum and tools available to students as they enter the workforce. Topics of discussion include:
• Liabilities of students upon graduation,
• Proper steps of instrument processing,
• Proper flow of Central Processing Areas and
• Resources and tools available and how to best implement them in your curriculum.

Michelle Lee took on the role of Executive Director at the Organization of Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) in 2018. Her dedication to OSAP’s mission of offering comprehensive infection prevention and control education, training and credentialing for ensuring safe dental visits has been instrumental in fostering robust partnerships within the dental and health care sectors. With over three decades of experience in the dental and health care industries, Ms. Lee has held prominent positions, including leading the largest dental and medical staffing firm in the Southeast. Additionally, she has consulted within health care organizations, providing both leadership and team development training. Her goal is to continue to support OSAP’s efforts to shape a safe and secure future for dental professionals and the patients they serve.

Karen A. Raposa, RDH, M.B.A.

Karen Raposa is currently Regional Manager at HuFriedyGroup, a division of STERIS Corporation. Ms. Raposa is a registered dental hygienist with a Master of Business Administration and over 40 years of experience in the dental profession. She earned the title of Certified Central Service Vendor Partner with the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association and has spent the last 22 years consulting with faculty, residents and students in dental and dental hygiene programs in both the United States and Canada to help implement their clinical programs. Ms. Raposa was an adjunct faculty member at Bristol Community College and held a full-time faculty position in the Department of General Dentistry at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
