History of Dentistry: Global Pandemics and Health Education

History of Dentistry: Global Pandemics and Health Education

Recorded On: 11/16/2021

Major pandemics have tremendous effects on society, including education. Pandemics precipitated the early decline of the Western Roman Empire and helped spread Christianity. These effects are often unappreciated until years or decades after they happened. While the impact of epidemics on education has been significant, it is not well documented.

Join us in this free webinar as we explore how major health crises of the past 800 years (leprosy, the Black Plague, Spanish Flu, COVID-19, etc.) have shaped health education. This presentation will explore those seminal moments in history and their lasting impact on how we teach and learn. The webinar will also engage with the audience to discuss how COVID-19 has impacted their educational lives and the lasting impact it may have on dental education.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe major pandemics of the last 800 years and their effect on health education.
  2. Discuss the potential lasting impact of COVID-19 on dental education.
  3. Identify areas of personal curiosity and spark further inquiry regarding history of health education.
