From Data to Strategy: Using Population Oral Health Data in Dental Education

Includes a Live Web Event on 04/30/2026 at 11:00 AM (EDT)

Population-level oral health data and public health surveillance systems play a critical role in identifying trends, disparities, and emerging needs that shape oral health education, policy, and care delivery. This faculty development webinar explores how publicly available population oral health data can be interpreted and applied within dental education and academic practice. Speakers will highlight key oral health trends and demonstrate practical ways faculty can integrate population-level data into teaching, research, and community-engaged learning. The session emphasizes translating data insights into educational relevance, supporting evidence-based decision-making, and strengthening the connection between oral health and public health. Participants will leave with greater confidence in engaging with population data and using it to inform academic work.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify key sources of population-level oral health data and public health indicators relevant to dental education and academic practice.
  • Interpret selected oral health trends and disparities and describe their implications for curriculum development, community-based education and faculty scholarship.
  • Apply population oral health data to inform teaching, research or service activities that strengthen the integration of oral health and public health within dental education.
