Description:
ADEA has been advancing the idea among its member schools and programs in developing a uniform approach toward demonstrating and documenting competency. The ADEA Compendium concept and more recently EPAs (entrustable professional activities) operationalize competency-based education. The EPA framework supports a more holistic assessment of competency and intentionally measures entrustment, a function of trustworthiness and observed independence. Members of the ADEA Compendium and EPA Workgroups will present the development of Core EPAs and the mechanisms critical to implementing EPAs into the assessment of readiness for practice upon graduation from dental school.
Learning Objectives:
• Identity the relationship among Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs), competencies, Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) and patient outcomes as well as Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.
• Discuss the critical elements of assessment of readiness to practice including multiple assessments, over time with multiple evaluators in a progression to independence and entrustment.
