Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) are gaining momentum in dental education to connect competency-based learning with clinical practice. EPAs, defined as observable and measurable tasks that learners must perform safely and effectively, offer a structure for assessing readiness and ensuring graduates are prepared to meet patients’ needs in varied and potentially unfamiliar contexts.
Building upon previous sessions, this webinar spotlight presented by the ADEA Entrustable Professional Activity Workgroup features two U.S. dental schools—one predoctoral and one postdoctoral program—that have successfully implemented entrustment frameworks that use EPAs. Join us to learn first-hand why and how these programs engaged in change, and what they did to move an entrustment framework using EPAs into their settings. Hear the challenges and opportunities during this shift, and the highlights of EPAs for both learners and faculty.
Learning Objectives
- Assess the current trend of EPAs moving from an EPA framework to entrustment framework.
- Outline predoctoral and postdoctoral examples of entrustment framework.
- Recommend potential benefits of using EPAs to faculty, staff and learners.
