Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs): A Practical Framework for Competency-Based Dental Education

Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs): A Practical Framework for Competency-Based Dental Education

Includes a Live Web Event on 10/22/2025 at 12:00 PM (EDT)

Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) are increasingly being applied in dental education to connect competency-based learning with clinical practice. EPAs—defined as observable and measurable tasks that learners must perform safely and effectively—offer a structured framework for assessing readiness and ensuring graduates are prepared to meet patient needs in varied and potentially unfamiliar contexts.

This interactive webinar will introduce key concepts of an entrustment framework using EPAs, explain how EPAs support competency-based education and highlight what implementation looks like in predoctoral dental curricula. Through discussion and examples, attendees will gain practical insight into how EPAs can strengthen curriculum development, assessment and learner preparedness for independent practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain key concepts of an Entrustment Framework using Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) within dental education
  • Describe the role of EPAs in advancing competency-based education
  • Demonstrate how EPAs are implemented in predoctoral dental education
