Endless Opportunities: A Townhall for ADEA Chapters for Students, Residents and Fellows

ADEA proudly recognizes active and engaged ADEA Chapters for Students, Residents and Fellows. Involvement in ADEA Chapters is just one opportunity for students to be involved with ADEA. Whether it is through networking on the ADEA Connect platform or at ADEA events, hosting programs about dental academia, engaging with Chapters as a District Commissioner or supporting ADEA initiatives as a COSRF Liaison, there are endless opportunities for student involvement throughout their dental schools and allied dental education programs and beyond. Join key ADEA professionals and student leaders for an evening of discovery of what ADEA has to offer its ADEA Chapter members. 

Note: This webinar does not offer Continuing Education (CE) credit. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Review ADEA COSRF mission and vision.
  • Provide an overview of ADEA COSRF’s structure and insight into specific objectives related to the role.
  • Discuss student leadership opportunities at all levels of ADEA.
  • Provide insight into avenues for students to become involved with ADEA throughout their professional careers.

Justin James Donato

Second-year Dental Student

Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine

Mr. Donato serves as Vice-Chair on the ADEA Council of Students, Residents, and Fellows for the 2023-24 academic year. He is a first-generation Filipino American and a community college transfer student. After completing his prerequisites, he transferred to the University of California, Berkeley where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Molecular & Cellular Biology. Through his predental journey, he became involved in ADEA through his Educational Student Pathways Internship. ADEA has helped to foster his interest in academic dentistry and to meet like-minded colleagues who aim to prepare future generations of health care professionals.

Dalena Ha

Third-year Dental Student

A.T. Still Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health

Ms. Ha is a recipient of the NHSC scholarship and deeply passionate about expanding oral health services for underserved populations. Before entering dental school, she earned a master’s degree in biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University and completed her bachelor’s degree at Portland State University. Beyond her academic pursuits, she enjoys creating content for social media and founded an international charity group called “Remembering My Roots.” She’s excited to serve on the ADEA Council of Students, Residents and Fellows administrative board, to advocate for dental students and contribute to the innovative aspects of dentistry and dental education.

Andrew Halverson

Third-year Dental Student

Mr. Halverson is Chair of the ADEA Council of Students, Residents and Fellows. During downtime, he likes to run and read.

Yolanda Lee

Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations

Yolanda Lee is the Senior Vice President, Corporate Relations at the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), in the office of the President and CEO. In her role at ADEA, Yolanda develops and executes ADEA’s corporate relations strategy and is the lead point of contact representing ADEA externally to its corporate members, who are our key dental industry partners. 
 
In this role, Yolanda works with corporate foundations and other philanthropic groups to grow engagement and secure commitment and support for ADEA strategic initiatives.

Ana López-Fuentes, D.M.D., M.P.H., FACD, FICD

Chair of the ADEA Board of Directors

University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine

Dr. López-Fuentes is a tenured Professor, at the Community Dentistry Section of the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine (UPRSDM). She is currently the 2023-2024 Chair of the ADEA Board of Directors. Dr. López-Fuentes served as Dean of the UPRSDM from 2014-2018. At the UPRSDM, she serves as President of the Infection Control and Quality Assurance Standing Committees. She has a certificate in dental infection prevention and control from the OSAP and the DALE foundation. She is a member of the ADEA Collaborative on Dental Education Climate Assessment (CDECA), and UPRSDM’s ADEA Women Liaison Officer since 2006. She is Site Visitor for the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), and Ex-officio member/Consultant to the Board of Trustees of the Hispanic Dental Association (HDA). Dr. López serves as faculty advisor to the HDA and the American Association of Women Dentists Student Chapters. Dr. López-Fuentes served as Co-Chair of ADEA’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee from 2014-2021, ADEA’s Annual Session Program Committee (2018-2021), Immediate Past Chair of ADEA’s Women in Leadership Section, and Councilor to the Council of Sections representing the Women in Leadership Section. From 2018 to 2019, represented the HDA in the American Dental Association Presidents’ Summit for Diversity and Inclusion. She served as faculty advisor to the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM), fellowship from 2018-2022.

Nader Nadershahi, D.D.S., M.B.A., Ed.D.

Immediate Past Chair of the ADEA Board of Directors

Dean, University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry

Dr. Nader A. Nadershahi serves as the ninth Dean of University of the Pacific’s Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and Vice Provost of the San Francisco campus, bringing to the role nearly 30 years of leadership experience in dental education, organized dentistry, and clinical practice. He earned his DDS, completed GPR training, and has also earned MBA and EdD degrees. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, Academy of Dentistry International, International College of Dentists, and Pierre Fauchard Academy. He also completed fellowship in the ADEA Leadership Institute. Dr. Nadershahi serves on the boards of the Bay Area Council, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, and was appointed by the Governor to the California Health Workforce Education and Training Council.  He practiced in Marin County, California, and during his academic career, has more than 140 presentations, 30 publications, five book chapters, and numerous abstracts and other publications. Dr. Nadershahi served as chair of the American Dental Education Association Board of Directors and has been a leader at the California Dental Association, American Dental Association, and is also a member of the Santa Fe Group, a national organization focused on catalyzing improvement of oral health and health care in the United States and beyond.
