Dental Trauma Education: Challenges and Opportunities

Dental Trauma Education: Challenges and Opportunities

Recorded On: 05/10/2023

The extent of dental trauma education within dental schools around the world is largely unknown but believed to be very diverse. Dental trauma education presents many unique challenges in the classic dental education system. Carefully examining the status of dental trauma education and identifying challenges and opportunities in the field might open doors to improving and enhancing our educational approaches.

Developing and implementing problem-based learning (PBL) in dental curriculum to teach traumatic dental injuries has not been investigated. During this webinar, Drs. Chaitanya Puranik and Liran Levin will discuss challenges and opportunities in dental trauma education.

Dr. Levin will present results of a recent interview with dental trauma instructors from all Canadian dental schools and shed some light on the challenges and recommendations as voiced by those dental trauma educators. Dr. Puranik will share how the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine implemented PBL in traumatic dental injuries education and discuss the implementation process blueprint and outcomes after the implementation.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify challenges and opportunities in dental trauma education.
  2. Discuss detailed planning and implementation of PBL in traumatic dental injuries education.
  3. Discuss the implications of educational innovation on critical thinking and recall-based evaluations.
