As cannabis use becomes increasingly common across patient populations and communities, dental educators and clinicians are faced with a growing need to navigate questions related to clinical care, patient safety, documentation, institutional policy and education. Building on the clinical, ethical and communication considerations explored in the first two sessions of this series, this final session will examine how current evidence can inform institutional policies, dental curricula and clinical practice.
Join us to explore the relationship among evidence, policy development, documentation, accreditation and governance requirements and educational implementation. Through practical examples and discussion, gain strategies for translating emerging evidence into consistent, thoughtful and sustainable approaches within dental education and clinical settings.

Clinical Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine
Dr. Manish K.Bhagania, B.D.S., M.D.S., FICD, FIBCSOMS, is a Clinical Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, where he serves as Director of Predoctoral Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Education and Minor Oral Surgery Training. He is also an attending oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Boston Medical Center.
Dr. Bhagania’s academic interests span oral surgery education, pain management, medical emergencies, medically complex patients, addiction education, curriculum innovation, and the responsible integration of emerging technologies into dental education and clinical practice. He currently serves as Chair-Elect of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Section on Addiction Education, where he has been involved in advancing education and awareness surrounding substance use, stigma, and the implications of substance use for dental practice and patient care.
His scholarly and educational work includes interdisciplinary initiatives addressing cannabis use and dentistry, pain management, access to care, patient safety, and innovations in dental education. He has presented at national dental education forums, including multiple ADEA Annual Sessions, and has contributed to discussions at the intersection of oral health, addiction, public health, and clinical education.
Dr. Bhagania is deeply committed to preparing dental educators, clinicians, and future dental professionals to approach substance use and related clinical challenges with evidence-based knowledge, ethical decision-making, compassion, and a non-stigmatizing approach to patient care.

Vincent Chee, D.D.S.
Associate Professor of the Division of General Dentistry
Loma Linda University School of Dentistry
Dr. Vincent Chee is currently serving as Associate Professor of the Division of General Dentistry at Loma Linda University, School of Dentistry. As Director of Practice Management, his primary role is to prepare students from didactic and clinical training to the real world of Dentistry.
He is also the Councilor for the Section of Addiction Education since 2025 and has served in numerous capacities for the past 10 years within the ADEA Council of Sections. Dr. Chee will be sharing the strategies for integrating cannabis-related education into dental curricula and implementing institutional approaches that promote consistency, preparedness, and patient safety.

Laura Romito, D.D.S., M.B.A., M.S.
Associate Dean of Education and Academic Affairs
Indiana University School of Dentistry
Dr. Romito earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The Ohio State University. She completed a general dental practice residency at the University of Nebraska before entering private dental practice in 1990. In 2005, she joined the faculty of the Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) and served as a clinical restorative dentistry instructor, director and instructor of biomedical sciences and evidence-based dentistry courses and tobacco dependence education. Dr. Romito helped establish the Indiana University Interprofessional Practice and Education and Center and served as its Assistant Dean for Faculty Development and Engagement. She is a tenured Professor in the IUSD Department of Biomedical and Applied Sciences and currently serves as Associate Dean of Education and Academic Affairs oversees academic programs, admissions and student affairs.
