This webinar offers educators the opportunity to develop skills and strategies for creating inclusive, respectful and culturally responsive conversations across the oral health curriculum. Participants will explore methods for integrating inclusive dialogue in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments. The webinar will provide practical tools to engage students in meaningful discussions that ensure every voice is heard and valued. Participants will also address common challenges, such as navigating sensitive topics and fostering an atmosphere of respect and belonging within the virtual classroom.
Learning Objectives:
- Use strategies to facilitate inclusive and culturally responsive conversations in oral health education settings.
- Develop approaches for addressing sensitive topics while maintaining a supportive, respectful virtual classroom environment.
- Establish actionable plans for integrating inclusive dialogue throughout the oral health curriculum, fostering a space where all students feel valued and empowered.

Nolan L. Cabrera, Ph.D.
Author and Professor
The University of Arizona
Dr. Nolan Cabrera is a nationally recognized expert in the areas of racism/anti-racism on college campuses, Whiteness and ethnic studies. He has given hundreds of lectures, keynote addresses and trainings, throughout the country on challenging racism/Whiteness, working through unconscious bias, creating inclusive college campuses and the expansion of ethnic studies programs.
He is currently a Full Professor in the Center for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Arizona, and was the only academic featured in the MTV documentary White People. He completed his graduate work at University of California, Los Angeles in Higher Education & Organizational Change and earned his B.A. from Stanford University in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity (Education focus).
His book, White Guys on Campus, is a deep exploration of White male racism and occasional anti-racism on college campuses. Jeff Chang, author of We Gon’ Be Alright, described White Guys on Campus as “A timely, provocative, even hopeful book.”
Additionally, Dr. Cabrera was an expert witness in the Tucson Unified School District’s Mexican American Studies case (Gonzalez v. Douglas), which is the highest-profile ethnic studies case in the country’s history.
Dr. Cabrera is an award-winning scholar whose numerous publications have appeared in some of the most prestigious journals in the fields of education and racial studies. He is also a former Director of a Boys & Girls Club in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is originally from McMinnville, Oregon.

Sara Bendoraitis, M.Ed.
Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Learning
American Dental Education Association
Sara Bendoraitis is the Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Learning at the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). In this role, Sara champions the importance of a diverse and inclusive environment and leads the creation of strategies to foster a strong sense of belonging and create a welcoming, safe, equitable, and inclusive culture in academic dentistry.
Sara was formerly with OPTICA, where she was Director of Membership Program Development. From 2011 to 2018, she was Director of Programming, Outreach and Advocacy at American University’s Center for Diversity and Inclusion. She began her work at American University as Director of their Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Ally Resource Center in 2007 till 2011. Sara has an M.S. in Education Administration from Texas A&M University and a BA in Women’s Studies and Political Science from the University of Rhode Island.
Sara has presented at national conferences on student identity support and advocacy, gender-neutral housing best practices, academic and student affairs collaboration, assessing Safe Zone programs, leadership, unconscious bias and women’s and gender centers. Sara also been a consultant for various federal government agencies, national and international non-profits, higher education institutions, and the United States Naval Academy.
She has served as a board member the NASPA Center for Scholarship, Research, and Professional Development for Women, a NASPA Regional Representative, the Education, Advocacy, and Outreach Chair and Co-Chair for the Consortium of Higher Education Lesbian Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Ally Resource Professionals, and a member of the Council on the Advancement of Standards (CAS) in Higher Education Board of Directors. In her spare time, Sara can be found spending time with her family as well as running the HY-Swap, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing and circulating items in good condition within the community, providing savings for local families and reducing waste.
