There are some business aspects of dentistry that are challenging to learn in a classroom or clinical setting. Some elements needed for a successful career require additional skillsets that many recent graduates find they are underprepared for when seeking their first professional role. During this webinar three ADEA corporate members will share helpful guidance for those coming out of dental schools and allied programs. 

Note: This event does not offer continuing education (CE) credit.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify what’s included in an employment contract and how to negotiate terms that fit your needs.
  • Write questions to ask your prospective employer to facilitate success and gather insight into the practice’s operations.
  • Explain the common problems that practices experience with inventory control, ordering and implementing new ordering systems.
  • Describe the tag system and the technologies and techniques related to it that can increase a practice’s efficiency.
  • Identify key traits to build a personal brand and appeal to potential employers.

Lauren Melson has been working with students for almost 20 years helping them evaluate their career options. She started her career in higher education working in Admissions for a small liberal arts college in North Georgia, then moved into professional services where she worked with undergrads, MBAs, and PhDs with Bain & Company and The Boston Consulting Group. She has worked with thousands of students over the past 20 years to help them think through what’s most important as they evaluate their career decisions. Lauren currently heads up new graduate recruiting efforts for dentists and hygienists at Heartland Dental, the nation’s largest Dental Support Organization with ~1700 offices across 38 states, and Washington D.C. She and her team strive to visit campuses and host events that provide educational content for students to help prepare them for their post-grad career journey within dentistry.

Shannon Pace Brinker, CDA

Shannon Pace Brinker, CDA is a national and international speaker, published author and practicing dental assistant for over 30 years. She has published over 200 articles in regard to Clinical Application and taught thousands of dental team members across the US and Canada. Shannon has taught at the Nash Institute, Dawson Academy, and Spear Education, instructing through both lectures and hands-on programs. Shannon has a column in Dental Product Report for team evaluation of dental products and materials.

Erika L. Spring, M.Ed., RDH

Community & Education Product Trainer

Erika Spring is a clinical dental hygienist by heart and has served her profession in various roles over the last 30 years. Currently serving in Community and Education for Zyris Inc. In her spare time, Erika remains adjunct faculty at Coastal Carolina Community College teaching Periodontology and GBT.  Erika provides didactic and hands-on training courses for SDA/EMS and Spring Innovative Coaching and Consulting. In 2020, she has further adapted and implemented the GBT curriculum to be the first dental hygiene program in the US to adopt this cutting-edge technology and be certified in the US. Leadership and innovation go hand in hand- her quest for quality patient care, practice performance and practitioner satisfaction stems from surrounding herself with leaders in the dental industry and establishing her WIN WIN WIN philosophy. Erika is an alumni of Coastal Carolina Community College, receiving her undergraduate degree and setting the stage for a passionate career in clinical dental hygiene.
